Dispensaries are flooded during your typical holiday weekend. Afterall, cannaconsumers love to celebrate! Those who love cannabis have even founded their own holidays. Almost everyone knows that 4/20 is the unofficial national weed day, but do you know about 7/10 the unofficial National Dab Day? 7/10 hasn’t been celebrated as long as 4/20 but it grows in popularity year after year. We’re going to take a deeper look into 7/10 and its humble rise from street slang into the average cannaconsumer vocabulary. So, let’s kick back in the cut, fire one up and learn about some holiday weed stuff.
Where Did It Come From?
Did you know, 710 spun 180 degrees spells OIL?! Oil has been associated with cannabis concentrates longer than any other slang term as hash oil is one of the first known uses of cannabis concentrates. 710 would then become a slang term for dabs by street dealers and enter the Urban Dictionary in 2010. In 2011, Rap star TaskRok of Highly Educated began to use the term in interviews and in conversation with other artists. That same year he released an album under the group Task & Linus titled The Movement full of cannabis references, including the song 7:10. He was very vocal about the benefits of dabbing while downplaying the benefits of traditional smoking. Without a doubt, dabbing exploded in popularity between 2010 and 2013.
Why Did It Become Celebrated?
As all things cannabis became more accepted and grew in popularity, those who are active in cannabis culture naturally sought out more days to celebrate our culture. 7/10 didn’t really become celebrated until 2013 when LA Weekly dropped an article titled 7/10 Is the New 4/20. The term 710 was spreading with its newfound notoriety, even 420 glass cleaner released a new formula for oil rigs called 710. Now, 710 was visible in most smoke shops and people began to ask questions and wanted to become educated on its history. The more dabbing grew in popularity, the quicker cannaconsumers took to own 7/10 as another one of our cherished holidays. Today 7/10 is almost as well-known as 4/20 when it comes to green holidays and shows no signs of slowing down!
And So, We Dab
So, on 7/10 we dab. We dab together to be social and celebrate the wonderful culture we all live in, a onetime counterculture that is now just culture. Vapes and disposable vapes continue to grow in popularity among cannaconsumers, yet many fans have a difficult time getting their vape to work at maximum efficiency. This leads to annoying experiences at the worst times but most of these can be avoided by following some simple rules for vapes and knowing your voltage settings, what they do and what one best suits your individual needs. Having a vape that works properly will save you both time and money. So, kick back in the cut, fire one up, and let’s learn about some vape stuff.
Lower Settings
Lower voltage settings are meant for three types of people, those with lower tolerances, those with sensitive lungs, and those looking to stay incognito while consuming. Lower voltage settings produce smaller clouds of vapor. This makes it easy to control dosage, test your lung capacity for vapor, and exhale very little vapor. The downside to lower temps is people believe if they inhale harder, they will get a bigger cloud. This is not the case and will just lead to clogged vapes. No matter the voltage always inhale at the same pace as a normal breath.
Medium Settings
Medium voltage settings are where most consumers should be living. It gives you the most comparable experience to smoking. It also serves as a testing voltage to see if you need the lower or higher settings. It really is baby bear’s bowl of porridge, just right. That is not to say there is no downside. Because it is the most akin to a traditional smoking experience people often tend to hit it more rapidly than needed. This causes the distillate to be pulled into the drawing port and can cause clogs. Just remember to give your vape a little break between hits and you should have clear sailing!
High Settings
High voltage settings are the most rarely needed by consumers. Unless you are vaping an extremely thick oil, the only use for high settings is for flexing with big clouds or doing cloud tricks to impress people. Using too high of a voltage setting leads to most vape clogs, so unless you can blow a smoke cloud shaped like a boat as though you were Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, it is best to keep it at a lower setting. Besides leading to clogs, it is also very wasteful as you will burn through your vape much faster without seeing a marked increase in your experience,
Yes, They Do Matter
Now that you have a better understanding of the different usage of voltage settings on vapes, you are better equipped to fend off the pit falls of vaping. If you use disposable vapes, please consider switching to cartridges. Remember each disposable thrown in the trash puts another battery in a landfill somewhere. Be kind to the planet and it will be kind to you. To stay up to date with all things RiverBluff Collection SIGN UP for email group to be in the know.
The world of smokeable hemp and hemp-derived THC products is an amazing and wonderful place but for everyday consumers the reward fades over time as they build what is known as a tolerance. To get back to reaping the full reward of your smoke session, you may want to take a tolerance break aka a T-break. Yes, taking a T-break requires you to avoid your favorite plant for a period of time but the outcome is worth the break! We’re going to talk about the science behind it, ways to occupy your time during one, and the other hidden advantages to a tolerance break. So, kick back in the cut, don’t fire one up, and let’s learn about taking a break from weed stuff.
How THC is Stored in the Body
THC is stored in the body’s fat cells. Simply stopping for a bit will allow the body to burn off some of those fat cells and help the body naturally reset its tolerance. With no new THC entering the cells, your body’s tolerance will decrease over time. Just like over exposure to anything, giving your body a break will benefit you long-term.
Ways to Occupy Your Free Time
During a tolerance break you will have time to kill and there are plenty of productive ways to fill that time. If you have been putting off tasks like housework or getting ahead on future tasks or work, you now have some extra time to devote to them. If you have a hobby or ever wanted to start a hobby, you have more time to do so during this period. Probably the most common thing to do during a tolerance break is exercise. This is good for the body and helps with the tolerance break as it burns fatty cells. The important thing is you have extra time and there is nothing more valuable than that.
Hidden Advantages of Tolerance Breaks
Outside the time regained there are other little advantages that make tolerance breaks well worth it. First, think of the money you can save during this time. Is there something you’ve been meaning to buy? Well, now you’ll have extra money for a bit to put towards it. Second, you can help end the stigma that THC is addictive by simply stopping for a bit and not falling into disarray. Lastly and most importantly, you’ll get that old time high that you may have forgotten. It will take you back to the days when you first discovered THC and the nostalgia will wash over you.

Most cannabis consumers think of THC as a singular compound when the reality is far from it. There are four major types of THC used for their medicinal and psychoactive effects and many other lesser-known forms that show up in products. The BIG 4 are Delta 8 THC, Delta 9 THC, THC-A, and THC-P. Today we will learn about THC-A specifically:
How is if different from what is sold at a typical dispensary
Why it is becoming many longtime smokers go to flower
Why some consider it “fake” weed
How it is legal
So, kick back in the cut, fire one up, and let’s learn about some weed stuff.
What is THC-A
THC-A or Tetrahydrocannabinol Acid if you want to be fancy is the primary form of THC produced by the cannabis plant. When heated it converts to Delta-9 THC. Delta-9 THC is often the form people are thinking of when they ask about “real” THC and in edibles and most vapes they’d be correct but when it comes to bud, they are missing the picture. THC-A makes up on average 98.5% of the total THC count in cannabis. THC-A is what gets you high when smoking flower so, when purchasing from a hemp shop or dispensary always look at the THC- A count.
How is THC-A Hemp Different Than What is Sold at A Typical Dispensary?
The easy answer is that it is not taxed at a ridiculous rate. For cannabis to qualify as THC-A hemp it only requires that it is has a dry weight of less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC. By that standard the vast majority of raw cannabis flower sold qualifies as THC-A hemp. To ensure they could get plants to stay around that 0.3% Delta 9 standard, growers crossed it with plants with a high CBG count. CBG might be the most beneficial compound for your health in cannabis (we can dig into that in another blog, another time). Now, we have THC-A hemp that tests as good or better than most flower found at typical dispensaries, but wait, we bumped the CBG count up significantly. Next time you buy from a typical dispensary, look at the Delta 9 THC count. If it is less than 0.3% (it probably will be) or says THC-A on the label, know you could have bought your flower cheaper elsewhere.
Why Many Smokers Go to THC-A Flower
I’ll keep this short and just give you a list of reasons.
It isn’t taxed nearly as heavy
It gets you just as high
The extra CBG in theory should make it slightly better health wise.
Most Hemp shops have less wait time, and their staff must be educated on the products they sell because many first-time customers will come in with the assumption it is all “fake”.
Why Some People Call It “Fake” Weed
The reason THC-A hemp is called “fake” weed is due to ignorance caused by lack of topic education brought on by the government’s futile war to demonize the plant. Little research existed on cannabis until the last 40 years when interest picked back up for its medicinal use to curb opiate addiction. Now, we live in the information age. You have a supercomputer in your pocket and hopefully an educated budtender in front of you. If people fail to listen to the budtender, fail to research what they are explaining, and choose to call THC-A hemp “fake” weed then there is nothing I could write today that would change their mind. The only thing that could change their mind is failing a drug test for THC (Which they most definitely will) after smoking “fake” weed and no one wants that.
How is This Legal?
The 2018 Farm Bill set the definition of hemp-based products as those having less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC by dry weight. This unknowingly made most cannabis grown in the county to now be classified as hemp, but it took a few years for the public to catch on as many were happy their states were now recreational. First, they realized they could still make high powered edibles and qualify them as hemp making them legal to see in most states. It wasn’t until the last 4 years that the THC-A hemp flower explosion happened as more and more people started to notice the weed that bought at their local dispensary should qualify as hemp and set out to prove that point.
Don’t Knock It Until You Try it
After reading this article, if you’ve never visited a hemp shop that sells THC-A flower, I implore you to do so. If you are still skeptical when you arrive, I dare you to ask for their best. What do you have to lose? It is cheaper and more convenient than most typical dispensaries. Find a hemp shop that educates and strives to carry quality products, there are many who do and twice as many who don’t but if you find the right one it will blow your local dispensary out of the water. THC-A hemp is not “fake” weed. It is just weed or maybe even weed that is better for you.
