How To Infuse Your Pre-Roll

How To Infuse Your Pre-Roll

Most people who smoke joints eventually want to try out something new and more intense. An infused joint would be their perfect next step! An infused joint is a pre-rolled cannabis joint that is enhanced with additional cannabis extracts like hash, kief, or live resin. Some burn great and some not so much, but no one denies their effectiveness. Infused pre-rolls are heavy hitters and more costly due to their infusion of cannabis concentrates, but what if you could make them yourself? Would it be cheaper? Would it burn more consistently? Yes, and yes but constantly doesn’t necessarily mean consistently better. That will depend on the time and care you put into your creation. So, kick back in the cut, fire one up, and let’s learn about making some concentrate infused stuff!

The Parfait (Cone)

The parfait is the easiest to produce infused pre-roll by far. Let’s start at packing a cone first. You pack a cone like a little musket. Put ground herb in top and use the stick to pack it. Repeat until desired smoking size then twist and fire. To make the parfait, you do the same process but will add in the concentrate of your choice at the dosage you want. The best parfaits seem to be 5 layers going from herb to concentrate to herb to concentrate, to herb. You’ll want to use a dryer concentrate like sand, bubble hash, or some badders.

The Snake (Hand Rolled)

The snake bumps up the difficulty a notch as you’ll need to know how to hand roll. We won’t be going over how to roll a joint here as there are a thousand ways to roll a joint by hand and videos explaining how to do most of them. The best advice is to pick your method and watch it be done multiple times. Get some wraps and herb and vow not to smoke until you roll something worthy of smoking. With that said, when you lay your herb into your paper put a line of whatever concentrate you prefer in and twist it up. You can use less dry concentrates here as the herb will get coated as rolling. Speaking of coating…

The Coating

There is another easy way to infuse your pre-roll and it is as simple as it sounds. Once you have your pre-roll prepared, use a wetter stickier concentrate and give your roll a light coating. Then take a dryer concentrate and roll the now sticky joint in it to give it a new outside texture. These are tougher to dose, so be careful when preparing and firing up!

The Doom Bringer

This method takes all you’ve learned thus far and rolls it into one. It also is the easiest to explain because you’ve learned all the methods already! Take your parfait or snake and give it the coating method. This is the hardest to perfect though as getting a pre-roll with that much concentrate to burn correctly is a lot like asking your pet to do the dishes. It is probably never going to be perfect, but it should get better with practice! To see all the fixings we have for your next infusion, check out our Smokables page for all of our instore offerings.

How 7/10 Came to be Celebrated

How 7/10 Came to be Celebrated

Dispensaries are flooded during your typical holiday weekend. Afterall, cannaconsumers love to celebrate! Those who love cannabis have even founded their own holidays. Almost everyone knows that 4/20 is the unofficial national weed day, but do you know about 7/10 the unofficial National Dab Day? 7/10 hasn’t been celebrated as long as 4/20 but it grows in popularity year after year. We’re going to take a deeper look into 7/10 and its humble rise from street slang into the average cannaconsumer vocabulary. So, let’s kick back in the cut, fire one up and learn about some holiday weed stuff.

Where Did It Come From?

Did you know, 710 spun 180 degrees spells OIL?! Oil has been associated with cannabis concentrates longer than any other slang term as hash oil is one of the first known uses of cannabis concentrates. 710 would then become a slang term for dabs by street dealers and enter the Urban Dictionary in 2010. In 2011, Rap star TaskRok of Highly Educated began to use the term in interviews and in conversation with other artists. That same year he released an album under the group Task & Linus titled The Movement full of cannabis references, including the song 7:10. He was very vocal about the benefits of dabbing while downplaying the benefits of traditional smoking. Without a doubt, dabbing exploded in popularity between 2010 and 2013.

Why Did It Become Celebrated?

As all things cannabis became more accepted and grew in popularity, those who are active in cannabis culture naturally sought out more days to celebrate our culture. 7/10 didn’t really become celebrated until 2013 when LA Weekly dropped an article titled 7/10 Is the New 4/20. The term 710 was spreading with its newfound notoriety, even 420 glass cleaner released a new formula for oil rigs called 710. Now, 710 was visible in most smoke shops and people began to ask questions and wanted to become educated on its history. The more dabbing grew in popularity, the quicker cannaconsumers took to own 7/10 as another one of our cherished holidays. Today 7/10 is almost as well-known as 4/20 when it comes to green holidays and shows no signs of slowing down!

And So, We Dab

So, on 7/10 we dab. We dab together to be social and celebrate the wonderful culture we all live in, a onetime counterculture that is now just culture. With that said, you should probably get stocked up for the holiday and boy do we have some recommendations! Unfortunately, we don’t carry any oils on the site, but you can stop into our East Dubuque location and check out our amazing selection available by visiting our Smokables page. The selection is ever changing but they are all top notch and priced to go! Don’t worry, if you aren’t a dabber, carts are oil too so you can still join in the festivities. Not sure what to pick and need more information, just check out this Dabs: The Sleeping Giant of THC Products article. No matter what your plans are for 7/10, take a moment and reflect on how far the world has come to celebrate a day like it and enjoy the holiday. Tolerance Breaks and You

Tolerance Breaks and You

The world of smokeable hemp and hemp-derived THC products is an amazing and wonderful place but for everyday consumers the reward fades over time as they build what is known as a tolerance. To get back to reaping the full reward of your smoke session, you may want to take a tolerance break aka a T-break. Yes, taking a T-break requires you to avoid your favorite plant for a period of time but the outcome is worth the break! We’re going to talk about the science behind it, ways to occupy your time during one, and the other hidden advantages to a tolerance break. So, kick back in the cut, don’t fire one up, and let’s learn about taking a break from weed stuff.

How THC is Stored in the Body

THC is stored in the body’s fat cells. Simply stopping for a bit will allow the body to burn off some of those fat cells and help the body naturally reset its tolerance. With no new THC entering the cells, your body’s tolerance will decrease over time. Just like over exposure to anything, giving your body a break will benefit you long-term.

Ways to Occupy Your Free Time

During a tolerance break you will have time to kill and there are plenty of productive ways to fill that time. If you have been putting off tasks like housework or getting ahead on future tasks or work, you now have some extra time to devote to them. If you have a hobby or ever wanted to start a hobby, you have more time to do so during this period. Probably the most common thing to do during a tolerance break is exercise. This is good for the body and helps with the tolerance break as it burns fatty cells. The important thing is you have extra time and there is nothing more valuable than that.

Hidden Advantages of Tolerance Breaks

Outside the time regained there are other little advantages that make tolerance breaks well worth it. First, think of the money you can save during this time. Is there something you’ve been meaning to buy? Well, now you’ll have extra money for a bit to put towards it. Second, you can help end the stigma that THC is addictive by simply stopping for a bit and not falling into disarray. Lastly and most importantly, you’ll get that old time high that you may have forgotten. It will take you back to the days when you first discovered THC and the nostalgia will wash over you.

Why THC-A Hemp Flower is Becoming the Ruler of THC Products in Cannabis Stores.

Why THC-A Hemp Flower is Becoming the Ruler of THC Products in Cannabis Stores.

Most cannabis consumers think of THC as a singular compound when the reality is far from it. There are four major types of THC used for their medicinal and psychoactive effects and many other lesser-known forms that show up in products. The BIG 4 are Delta 8 THC, Delta 9 THC, THC-A, and THC-P. Today we will learn about THC-A specifically:

  • How is if different from what is sold at a typical dispensary
  • Why it is becoming many longtime smokers go to flower
  • Why some consider it “fake” weed
  • How it is legal

So, kick back in the cut, fire one up, and let’s learn about some weed stuff.

What is THC-A

THC-A or Tetrahydrocannabinol Acid if you want to be fancy is the primary form of THC produced by the cannabis plant. When heated it converts to Delta-9 THC. Delta-9 THC is often the form people are thinking of when they ask about “real” THC and in edibles and most vapes they’d be correct but when it comes to bud, they are missing the picture. THC-A makes up on average 98.5% of the total THC count in cannabis. THC-A is what gets you high when smoking flower so, when purchasing from a hemp shop or dispensary always look at the THC- A count.

How is THC-A Hemp Different Than What is Sold at A Typical Dispensary?

The easy answer is that it is not taxed at a ridiculous rate. For cannabis to qualify as THC-A hemp it only requires that it is has a dry weight of less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC. By that standard the vast majority of raw cannabis flower sold qualifies as THC-A hemp. To ensure they could get plants to stay around that 0.3% Delta 9 standard, growers crossed it with plants with a high CBG count. CBG might be the most beneficial compound for your health in cannabis (we can dig into that in another blog, another time). Now, we have THC-A hemp that tests as good or better than most flower found at typical dispensaries, but wait, we bumped the CBG count up significantly. Next time you buy from a typical dispensary, look at the Delta 9 THC count. If it is less than 0.3% (it probably will be) or says THC-A on the label, know you could have bought your flower cheaper elsewhere.

Why Many Smokers Go to THC-A Flower

I’ll keep this short and just give you a list of reasons.

  1. It isn’t taxed nearly as heavy
  2. It gets you just as high
  3. The extra CBG in theory should make it slightly better health wise.
  4. Most Hemp shops have less wait time, and their staff must be educated on the products they sell because many first-time customers will come in with the assumption it is all “fake”.

Why Some People Call It “Fake” Weed

The reason THC-A hemp is called “fake” weed is due to ignorance caused by lack of topic education brought on by the government’s futile war to demonize the plant. Little research existed on cannabis until the last 40 years when interest picked back up for its medicinal use to curb opiate addiction. Now, we live in the information age. You have a supercomputer in your pocket and hopefully an educated budtender in front of you. If people fail to listen to the budtender, fail to research what they are explaining, and choose to call THC-A hemp “fake” weed then there is nothing I could write today that would change their mind. The only thing that could change their mind is failing a drug test for THC (Which they most definitely will) after smoking “fake” weed and no one wants that.

How is This Legal?

The 2018 Farm Bill set the definition of hemp-based products as those having less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC by dry weight. This unknowingly made most cannabis grown in the county to now be classified as hemp, but it took a few years for the public to catch on as many were happy their states were now recreational. First, they realized they could still make high powered edibles and qualify them as hemp making them legal to see in most states. It wasn’t until the last 4 years that the THC-A hemp flower explosion happened as more and more people started to notice the weed that bought at their local dispensary should qualify as hemp and set out to prove that point.

Don’t Knock It Until You Try it

After reading this article, if you’ve never visited a hemp shop that sells THC-A flower, I implore you to do so. If you are still skeptical when you arrive, I dare you to ask for their best. What do you have to lose? It is cheaper and more convenient than most typical dispensaries. Find a hemp shop that educates and strives to carry quality products, there are many who do and twice as many who don’t but if you find the right one it will blow your local dispensary out of the water. THC-A hemp is not “fake” weed. It is just weed or maybe even weed that is better for you. Visit our Smokables page to check out all we offer in store and SIGN UP  for our email group to stay in the know.

Lookout CBD: CBG and CBN Are Taking Over

Lookout CBD: CBG and CBN Are Taking Over

By this point most people have a general understanding of the benefits of CBD but, with advancements in hemp and cannabis science more people are becoming aware of CBG and CBN and are increasingly curious as to their differences. More and more people are purchasing products containing CBG and CBN as they focus on more specific aliments and CBD has become less of the go to product for non-psychoactive compounds produced by the hemp plant. CBD still holds a very important role but is no longer the most sought-after non-psychoactive cannabinoid. We’re going to take a look at how we got here. So, kick back in the cut, fire one up, and let’s learn about some weed stuff!

Why We All Know CBD

The main reason we all know about CBD is because it is the most widely researched cannabinoid in the world. As research into the hemp plant continues, we continue to learn more about the 100+ other cannabinoids, how to isolate them for use, and exactly what they are good at doing. CBD is the second most purchased cannabinoid behind THC but at this point should it be? With the emergence of CBG and CBN, CBD is more of a facilitator making consumers more comfortable buying new products and it is doing exceedingly well as consumers focus on their specific needs.

Why CBG and CBN Are Better for Specific Needs

CBD, CBG, and CBN all have things they do well in common like help with sleep, general pain relief, and reduction in anxiety and stress but when it comes to specific issues in those areas CBG and CBN start to shine. CBD is primarily good for bone related pain, but the two most common uses of CBD, sleep and stress, are better suited to CBG and CBN.  CBG works well with such as nerve and muscle pain while also helping with brain activity reducing anxiety and stress better than CBD alone. CBN, on the other hand, is exceptional as a sleep aid and works better than CBD for general pain relief. The downside to CBN is it will make you drowsy but if that is what you wanted it will exceed expectations!

Why Pairing with THC is so Beneficial

THC will always be top of the food chain for cannabinoids when it comes to help with sleep, pain, stress and anxiety. Combined cannabinoids in a product will lead to a more well-rounded experience and a greater likelihood of achieving desired results. If you arn’t worried about trying THC or have a job that prohibits it, there are THC options available. If you are using THC alone for non-recreational purposes, pairing it with CBG and CBN will show increased effectiveness.

Products You Should Try!

In store we have a host of THC free tinctures to try but online we have two new products to address the need for CBG and CBN options. For those looking to reduce stress/anxiety or with soft tissue concerns we have a hemp-derived 10mg Delta 9 THC 10mg CBG 10mg CBD gummy. The 1:1:1 ratio provides a balance of all desired effects. These strawberry gummies are meant for daytime use but can also be used at night to help with minor sleep issues. It is the daytime “my body hurts but I have work to do” gummy. We have the same 10mg 1:1:1 ratio but paired with CBN for those with more chronic pain issues and serious sleep issues. These grape gummies are meant for nighttime use but can be used in the daytime if you have time to nap or won’t need to do much physical activity. It’s the “my body hurts, and I just need sleep so I can do all again tomorrow” gummy.  Both gummies come in a 30ct container for $40

Bubble Hash: The Concentrate Time Forgot

Bubble Hash: The Concentrate Time Forgot

The evolution of THC consumption has rapidly increased by way of concentrates. These high-powered extracts have been the daring of long-time canna-consumers, and more newcomers are tying them as well! From carts to dabs, the new darlings have overshadowed the old standard of concentrates like Bubble Hash to the point where many have forgotten what it is and does.

Luckily, we are here to remind you of the uses and joys of our hemp-derived THCA Bubble Hash. So, kick back in the cut, fire one up, and let’s learn about some weed stuff.

History of Hash

The term hash is derived from the word “hashish”. The first mentions of hashish date back to the late 10th century. Hashish was first developed as way to easily transport the resins created by the plant. Early means of consumption were simply eating the straight THC resin, but as you can imagine, it isn’t the best taste in the world. Hash went through many incarnations and consumption methods before Bubble Hash became the belle of the ball.

Bubble Hash was introduced to the western world in a High Times ad, of all places, by David Paul Watson aka Skunkman Sam in 1987. Over the years, pioneers such as Mila Jansen, aka Hash Queen, and Marcus Gary Richardson, aka Bubbleman, helped refine the process of extraction to give us the versatile high-peered product we know & enjoy today.

Bubble Hash: What it Looks Like and How to Consume It!

Bubble Hash has a sandy-like consistency that is often pressed into all shapes and sizes. It is most commonly consumed via smoking or using it to make edibles. Smoking Bubble Hash on its own isn’t for the faint of heart. It can be consumed via dabbing, though it makes quite the mess.

Most who consume bubble hash on its own use a good old fashioned water bong, or gravity bong, for the truly insane. Bubble Hash most commonly ends up as bong or bowl topper to add to your flower or as blend-in for your joints. You can learn methods of adding it to your joints HERE.

The last option is to cook with it! It can blend with most butters and oils to cook, but remember, with Bubble Hash a little goes a long way. Your dosage can be based on how much hash you use regardless of medium. 1g is 1000mg. You will lose some of that in the cooking process, but it is always better to air on the side of caution and just count it as though none of it dissipated. As an example, if you are looking for 10mg pieces you’d need to have 100 servings.

RiverBluff Collective’s Bubble Hash

We try to have at least 1 strain of bubble hash on hand at all times. The strains can vary and are only available in-store. If you want to give it a whirl, it is best to call the store to see what strain we have in it just to make sure it suits your tastes. Remember, your budtender is your friend! If you are curious about a product, ask and they will tell you all they know on the topic to make sure you make an informed decision.
