The most known adaptogen is probably ginseng but many others have been used for centuries by various cultures and increasing in popularity in the United States. We’re going to go over what Reishi, Ashwagandha, and L-theanine do and how they may help aid your overall health. So, kick back in the cut, fire one up, and let’s learn about some crazy new weed drink stuff.

What is Reish and what does it do?
Reishi also known as Lingzhi, is generally found in eastern parts of Asia. Reishi has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2000 years and is commonly referred to as the “Mushroom of Immortality”. Reishi contains a wide array of phytochemicals including triterpenes. Triterpenes are similar to steroid hormones and are believed to help increase general life span. In traditional Chinese medicine it is used to treat a variety of ailments and was believed to be as a form of cancer prevention and treatment though no evidence has been brought forth to support these claims. Even if there is a slight chance that it can help promote long life and prevent cancer, it is definitely worth a shot! Most people today use it to boost immunity, reduce stress, and get a bit of extra energy.

What is Ashwagandha and what does it do?
Ashwagandha is a shrub normally found in drier Middle Easten countries. Its scientific name, Withania Somnifera, sounds like a potent spell from the Potterverse. Somnifera comes from Latin, meaning sleep inducing. Ashwagandha is Sanskrit meaning horse smell as the root of the plant has a pungent odor. It has been used in traditional Indian medicine for centuries. It is a beautiful evergreen shrub sometimes called winter cherry. It is used to help treat stress, anxiety, and restless sleep and is currently undergoing research toward its effectiveness, but clinical evidence is currently insufficient to confirm its ability as a treatment.

What is L-theanine and what does it do?
L-theanine is an amino acid produced by some species of tea and fungi (mushrooms). L-theanine has been used to help aid with anxiety, stress, cognitive performance, improving sleep quality, and alleviating menstrual cramps, though there is a lack of clinical evidence to refute or confirm these claims. A 2020 controlled systematic review suggested that L-theanine was more effective than a placebo in treating anxiety disorders, ADHD, and schizophrenia. Its potential use to help regulate brain chemistry is fascinating.
