In honor of Halloween, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorites for you. So, kick back in the cut, fire one up and let’s learn about some scary movies weed stuff.
WARNING: If you haven’t seen these movies yet, stoner spoilers are ahead!
The Friday the 13th Franchise
The one that started it all! The franchise started in 1980 and by the third installment we saw our first cannabis user, Chuck, brutally murdered by the hulking villain, Jason Voorhees. Chuck stoned to the bone on some 80s swag gets curious as the power fails. He goes to the basement to check the fuse box and finds the masked man waiting and was electrocuted shortly thereafter. Chuck was the first of us to get killed but not the last. The Friday the 13th Franchise set in place many of the rules that would be discussed in our next entry.
Scream Franchise
Brought to us by one of the masters of the genre, Wes Craven, the original movie is a handbook on how to survive a horror movie. Randy the movie buff of the group lays out at a party. Though Randy never smokes cannabis on screen it is heavily implied that he partakes. His rules are as follows:
1. Never have sex!
2. Never drink or do drugs!
3. Never say you’ll be right back!
Ghostface makes sure that all those rules were proven true in the first movie. This was really the first horror movie to blend comedy and scary together that appealed to stoners in a major way and birthed an entirely new franchise that would further poke fun at the genre.
Scary Movie Franchise
The franchise on this list with the least scary moments and the most stoner moments. A horror parody series that held back no punches and took shots at every serious horror film. The most notable scene comes from the first movie when Ghostface, yes same Ghostface, smokies a blunt with Shorty Meeks, played by Marlon Wayans. The two break out into a rap that will be remembered by its fans forever. The franchise took shots at everything that is and was pop culture, nothing was safe, and it was parody at its best which led to a flood of other parody movies.
The Cabin in the Woods broke the fourth wall in ways never done before. The movie revolves around a typical group of college kids you’d find in a horror movie, fully equipped with their own wise stoner Marty. The group was unknowingly taking part in an ancient group of blood rituals needed to save the world. In the end, Marty becomes the most heroic character and keep in mind Chris Hemsworth was also in this movie. If Marty was successful or failed is a matter of debate but what isn’t is that he broke the trope that stoners were easy prey!
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
This underground cult classic is a must see. No need to break the fourth wall if there are no walls. This mocumentary follows a man known as Leslie Vernon as documentary crew follows him around preparing for his burst into the hall of greats with Micheal, Freddy, and Jason. It only has one scene where cannabis is smoked, and Leslie calls them easy prey because they have no stamina or cardio. It includes cameos of some of horror’s all-time greats in new roles and pays homage to the films that came before it. It is cleverly written, quirky and funny, and filled with plot twists. No one knows about this movie. Tell everyone about it!
